Trump made the 16 idiots he ran against look like squishy moderates and he was the conservative which was a neat trick for a democrat to pull. As it turns out he probably is more conservative than any of them but Cruz or Rubio - edit for Rand Paul who is still the best the GOP has to offer IMO

Obama ran a more leftist primary campaign because no one would call him on it when he went middle for the General

If we're going with longshot contenders then I would go with Buttigieg over Yang. Views are kind of similar but I think Buttigieg is more charismatic. I'd be happy with Buttigieg, Yang or Gabbart over the current front runners.
