As UW opened up a surprising 10-0 lead part-way through the 2nd quarter against heavily favored Michigan, UW’s then favorite son stood in an Ann Arbor, Michigan bar rooting on his beloved Dawgs.

Three days earlier Ted Bundy had escaped from a Colorado jail and was on the lamb

Renowned authors Stephen Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth recounted in their book, The Only Living Witness, how Bundy, at great risk, surrounded by Michigan fans, cheered on his Dawgs in that UM bar.

Bundy “wandered into a college bar to watch his alma mater, the University of Washington, play the University of Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl. Passing himself off as a medical student, Ted cheered lustily for the Washington Huskies, calling attention to himself in a Wolverine bar, and drank himself into a stupor by half time. Bundy drank only beer and only for the hour or so it takes to play a half of college football. But the alcohol had a powerful effect. He spent the second half of the game retching in the men's room and barely stumbled out the door before the bartender could make good on a threat to call the police to have Ted removed from the men's room's single toilet.”
