Alamo Bowl Recap

I decided to check in on the Uncrowned Champions bowl game the other night inside the friendly confines of the Alamo in San Antone. Nary a snow flake in sight.

The broadcasters were effusive in their praise for Gardner Minshew IIIIVXII, at one point comparing him to Cody Kessler. High praise indeed.

The Cyclones had a familiar game plan on defense that they obviously stole from Jimmy Lake. For those wondering how Lake would do if he didn't have NFL draft choices that he recruited and developed, well you got to see for yourselves. Probably pretty good. A middling Big almost 12 team pressured Minshew all night and held the high scoring Cuogs to a TD per quarter which is under their average when not playing in the Apple Cup.

As the game went on most of the Iowa State defense was ejected for targeting making it all the more impressive that they hung in there like they did.

Iowa State also has a moron for a coach who had to call a timeout all the time to make obvious play calls that he wasn't ready for. Call time out to think about going for it then punt. If you're going to go then go. Have a play ready, call it and make it work

A Cuog defender decided to go Prime Time on his way to the end zone costing our Cuogs a TD that they ended up getting anyway. That was your coug it moment that wasn't.

As it turns out the WSU Cuogs were playing the Cuogs of Iowa and the Cyclones out cooged them at the end in a 2 point loss.

A rare bowl win for the Pac 12 and another raise for Larry Scott and Mike Leach.

Leach told the sideline gal that Iowa State was the best defense he saw all year.

He also has said that he doesn't know Jimmy Lake or care about him.

Lake replied that North Dakota was the best offense UW saw all year.

Not a bad warm up for the main event - the Redbook Bowl with SEC favorite Oregon. It was a magical season for WSU who won 11 games for the first time. And yet didn't really win anything. At all.

Be a good sport always and always be a good sport
