Day Five was Live

Myles Rice is starting to make a move. The third-year sophomore has looked excellent in camp and like he's ready to push the starters for playing time. He has been rotating in at both the SAM and BUCK linebacker spots and today he got consistent pressure off the edge and wreaked some havoc during the full team sessions when the team was trying to run to his side. Rice is battling for reps mainly with Joe Tryon at BUCK and Amandre Williams, who has been running with the first team, at the SAM.

Love that Amandre is running with the 1's. But it's critical to have Rice be a good rotational player with the Kaho departure.

Both Kamari Pleasant and Sean McGrew had really good practices on Tuesday. McGrew has had four or five solid practices while Pleasant has been a little more hit and miss, but on Tuesday, the third-year sophomore tailback from Arizona looked really good, cutting against the grain and outrunning the defense to the edge before heading up the field for a long gainer. Both players also showed good hands coming out of the backfield and making plays down the field. Like we have mentioned before, neither are pushing Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed for playing time, but both look like they've taken their game to another level and that can only mean good things down the road for the Husky offense.

Hoping Pleasant can really become a fixture as a bigger back who has some burst but also is a great blocker. However, I enjoyed hearing that Sirmon de-cleated him, because I fucking love Sirmon.

The competition at the wide receiver position continues to be one of the most intriguing of fall camp. Marquis Spiker and Austin Osborne both had solid days and Trey Lowe also made a couple of nice catches, but he also had a couple of drops. Aaron Fuller and Quinten Pounds have really seemed to step up their game and both are playing at a high level, especially when you consider the highlight reel catches each has made in recent practices against one of the best secondaries in the entire country. Fuller won't blow you away with his size or athleticism, but he understands coverages and how to run a route and if he gets his hands on the ball, he almost always comes down with it. Ty Jones has been using his body much more recently, something we didn't see as much of in previous practices. He shielded a defender from a pass, hauling it in for a 15-yard gain and a first down. Chico McClatcher has had a couple of nice practices, but he didn't do much on Tuesday and Terrell Bynum and Alex Cook each have made some big plays including Bynum's big grab in double coverage on Sunday and then another nice one down the sidelines in Tuesday's practice.

Still enjoying seeing positive reviews of Spiker, Osborne, Lowe, Bynum, and Cook. If a couple of them can work into the 3rd and 4th receiver rotation to pair with a reliable (sounds like he's having a good camp) Fuller and a big bodied Jones, we? will not be completely fucked.

The tight ends haven't gotten a lot of work in the passing game of late, but they have been a key to opening things up in the running game. Drew Sample is an excellent blocker, but the one player who has really stood out in that area recently is Jacob Kizer. Kizer is just a beast as a blocker and he does a good job of sealing off the edge on running plays. Cade Otton also has his moments as a blocker, but he's not quite on the same level as Sample and Kizer. When you ask the coaches about the difference-makers on the edge in the running game, the tight ends are a huge factor for them in the running game and the progress of guys like Kizer and Otton is huge for the offense.

I LOVE OUR? WTEs!!!!!! I can't wait to see LBs and DBs get demolished by our fucking freight trains.
