Rogers doesn't like Seattle weather and is enamored with the big names. Easily the best shot and we have none.
And JT refuses to play in Seattle weather. He hates it so much that he wants to go to UCLA maybe or USC. He tore up a LSU offer because he doesn't care about them and yet he won't come to UW. Oh and he said he would love to fit into the Bama defense but not UW even tho UW isn't that far off. Scared yet?
Sav'ell Smalls is not transferring. Nope. That's not happening. Oh, and he is going to Stanford or Bama. All he talks about apparently.
How do I know this? My teammate said the top tier guys talk to each other and not a single one wants to stay in state. They all hate Seattle and Washington so much they would rather play for Oregon.
Read: Our two best in state classes in a long time and the top tier guys are all going elsewhere because of... Weather?
Obviously it goes deeper. But for all we like to make fun of people for weather comments it clearly has a huge impact on stupid kids (yeah yeah parents of recruits read these boreds. Hi Mr. Scott).
This can be taken with a minor grain of salt since my teammate, while friends with these guys, is not in their inner circles, and things change a lot for teenagers... But we might miss a lot of top fives and threes, and we probably will not clear one high level in state commitment.
The EC guys are gone. Each and every one. Smalls is gone.
We may have a shot at kids like Simon but it is doubtful. Sam Huard is the one I would say UW has a shot with since I didn't hear anything about him and he is the legacy but UW has a serious problem.
This is top tier talent right in the backyard and they aren't even interested.

Again: Things change. I wouldn't be surprised to see UW make a run once they change up the approach a bit. For now though there is a shit ton of work to do. -

But here's the great thing about WINNING … more doors are open to you. As a result, you get to be more picky.
IF we were in a spot where we had a lot of kids falling out of our program, heavy attrition, lots of transfers, etc., then I might get a little more concerned because our class size would go from 18-21 to 21-25 on a regular basis. Losing the in-state kids really starts to impact our classes the more kids that we need to go get.
Honestly, there are really 3 primary things that really matter to me from a recruiting standpoint:
1) We MUST recuit at a high enough level on the OL/DL that we're able to compete with teams on a National Level. When we take guys like Nick Harris we're going to have our issues on that stage. When we have guys like Watty, Bain and Victor Curne playing for us on the inside (guys that could play T for a lot of P5 programs), then we're where we need to be.
2) The one positional advantage that we have on the West Coast comparatively to the SEC is at the QB position ... we must be able to have difference maker type QBs that are able to make the kind of throws that are rare and can beat good to great defense. We're well stocked here.
3) Skill positions on both sides of the ball ... we don't have to get the best of the best per se ... but we need to be in the discussion where we're taking the 1B level kids (high 4's or high DDY2's to low DDY 3's) and then rely on chips on shoulder plus better development/coaching to get those players to outperform.
The paradigm is changing for in-state kids and what a UW offer meant. For better/worse, because UW recruited so heavily in-state for so long, there's an expectation that if you are a solid in-state player we''ll come charging after you. That was yesterday. Where the program is today it's not about that and instead about getting the best players we can get in the class regardless of position and those players have to fit what we want out of players. That's how elite programs recruit.

I don't disagree that Seattle isn't what it used to be … there's a lot of shit that needs to get cleaned up in a number of respects. That's also what happens when you try to be all things to everybody … you eventually realize you have an identity problem. You should tell this kid he sounds like a Republican and see what his reaction is.
What is nice shit? Who doesn't like nice shit? That also sounds like a kid that has never worked for anything in his life and doesn't know what's real and what isn't. Given that he's a private school kid I'm going with the assumption that his parents probably have a little coin in the bank account. I like to think about it like this … it's great to have a kick ass kitchen … but if you can't cook … does it really matter?
I fell into this category when I was in HS and at the UW before I left for TCU and that was that because I didn't really travel outside of the area, I had nothing to compare Seattle and this area to. Once I left, I realized how great it is to live in this part of the country despite the fact that there's a lot of things here that I don't particularly like or agree with. There's a lot of places that you go to for a weekend, a week, etc. on vacation and you think that that place is completely kick ass and it'd be easy to live there. Then when you spend a lot more time there you realize that when you really get to the daily meat and potatoes of that area, it's not really that great.
My guess is that this is a kid that needs to leave the area and then we should check back with him after a few years and see what his thoughts are. It's also why I never completely get bent out of shape about kids that say that they need or want to leave the area. It's not a bad thing. For some, it'll be the best decision that they will ever make. Their new home very possibly may be a better fit for them. For others, they'll go and realize that the things that they were chasing by leaving were internal and not because of where they were (and in fact leaving made it harder to achieve what they were chasing).
