Bill Connelly Season Preview / S&P+ breakdown

Haven't seen this posted yet, but if so, apologies to Taft. I find these to be interesting reads for the 2017 numbers, but the write-up is often detached from reality.

What it gets right:
  • On paper, Washington is one of the most proven teams in the country heading into 2018. But if there’s another step to be taken here, it’s on offense.
  • It’s not a stretch to say that Washington had the Pac-12’s only good defense last year.
What it gets dead wrong:
  • Browning has been incredible in three years as Petersen’s starter
  • The Huskies also have junior Myles Bryant (five TFLs, nine passes defensed), one of those lower-rated chip-on-shoulder guys who you'd want to date your daughter and one of the best nickel backs in the country.
They also have the Pac-12 overview up, where they project us to average 34 PPG and give up 17 PPG, but it also says Jake is our best offensive player and Myles Bryant is the best defender in the conference.

TL;DR computers love UW this year and Myles Bryant has embarrassing photos of Bill Connelly somewhere.

Sounds like Bill Connelley heard UW had a try-hard walk on named Myles and made some assumptions.

I'll wait for Race to chime in on how Trump is right. He's waiting for the talking points memo.

This is why you need to actually watch the games. Maybe Bryant had some success but he's not by any stretch the best defender on our own damn team let alone the conference. Connelly usually does cool shit so I'll let that slide but that's pretty fuckin bad.

I think Bryant is actually pretty good, but how could you watch the Penn State game and call him one of the best?

In fairness, Bryant's athleticism and attitude allow him to excel against a lot of opponents. But in the 2-3 games each year that matter, his size gets exposed and exploited.

Awesome guy to have on the team. He just shouldn't be a starter.
