Not what you were asking, but I googled about his complicated offense and found this article about it called "death by a thousand formations". Kind of interesting, was made after we played Southern Miss in a bowl game. I suppose it is a big playbook for freshmen to learn.

"This is when things start getting weird. The Huskies line up with four players to the left of the formation, three wide receivers split out wide and a defensive lineman attached to the line as a tight end – all to the left."

“Why Gil, we had 1000 plays to work on your team.”
“Maybe that was your trouble,” Dobie responded. “We had only nine plays; but coach, we sure knew them all well.”
Yes. I'd like us to get to that point.
I suspect Pete's thousand play approach is how he coped with the fact that he was getting 2 & 3 starts to Boise State.
Maybe he will learn that with athletic studs, you can have a playbook of 9 plays, and just plow people over with better execution, training, preparation, and raw athleticism.
How many times did Shaw call the same pass play on 3rd down last year in his win over us? We just couldn't stop it.

Edit: Now that I have looked, Austin Pettit and Titus Young had good freshman seasons.
