I've come around a bit to the idea that losing these elite recruits simply can come down to UW not having a ton to sell and not being able to sell it in the best way possible and in 2021, these kids don't have a ton of obligation to feel like they have to rep their home state and many probably don't even see playing at UW as even doing that. They don't care if a handful of random grown men who are Husky fans won't like them if they go somewhere else, including Oregon.
I actually thought about it from the Oregon side when they were not far removed from playing for national titles at all but they were down and guys in their state like Marlon and Molden (who was also a legacy) were gravitating towards UW, who was up at the time, and from what I remember, weren't even that serious about going to their in-state school and none of us really thought it was that crazy.
I'd much rather lose a kid to Alabama or maybe Clemson where you probably go if you truly want to win a national title but (probably been said a zillion times on this board) losing a kid to Ohio State isn't that crazy.
