Avery Bradley to the Pistons

Not the player I would have sacrificed to get room for Heyward, but I guess if they weren't going to resign him it makes sense. Seems like Ainge just gave him away though, only got Marcus Morris in exchange?

Seems like they could have gotten more for him.

Cap room move for Heyward. Had to move Crowder, Bradley, or Smart.

You can't play IT and Bradley together against Cleveland and DNC is right that they likely wouldn't have been able to resign him anyway ... Morris is a multi positional wing that can shoot the 3 on a good contract for the next few years ...

I like Bradley the player and you'd like to think Boston could have got more for them ... but how many assets can they realistically have

Ainge is the new Presti. One terrific skill (acquiring assets in Ainge's case) that covers up many weaknesses. Half the league is bidding on those three guys, you can't walk away with the shitty Morris twin.

I thought Presti finally did a good job at something other than drafting this year though.

Presti is the Romar of NBA GMs. He got Durrant because Portland went full retard, and tanked the Sonics enough to get Westbrook the year after that. The he got rid of Harden, and hasn't won shit despite having 3 MVPs on his roster. Has anyone done less with more?

If that's the case then you are giving him absolutely zero credit for getting IT for next to nothing and getting Crowder as a throw in to the Rondo deal with the Mavs.

I like Bradley as a player and no question that he'd have helped the Celtics this year. But Morris is far from a stiff. Morris is a 6'9" player that adds additional length to Boston's perimeter options in their future ability to have a number of guys with length that can be interchangeable. He's not a horrendous 3 point shooter (my guess is that he'll improve in Boston by getting better looks than what he was getting in Boston). And he's got a really good contract for the next 2 years.

In an ideal world Boston would have a) not traded Bradley or b) got more back for him. But what realistically could they have gotten back? They were limited with any player they were getting back to needing to make less than Bradley's below market salary next year. More draft picks? Only way that would have worked is if they could have gotten something like 2025 or beyond. What they did was swap out a rotation player to get more size. What the deal said is that they weren't resigning Bradley ... which makes sense if you resign IT then the question is what can you get Marcus Smart signed for as he's likely to command a little less on the open market but a better fit for what Boston is looking for.

As is, Boston also has to find minutes to give to Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum as well as potentially a couple of guys they have already stashed over in Europe. The deal does leave them in a bit of a hole IF IT doesn't fully recover or something happens to him during the year. But they still have Smart in place to cover.

As is, Boston's running out a rotation that includes:

IT, Hayward, Horford, Crowder, Smart, Morris, Brown, Tatum, and Rozier and that's before the guys they bring from Europe, etc.

They'll be fine ... and with the way the East is set up ... they'll be at worst in a similar position that they were in last year.

Yeah I'm not giving him credit for IT. That was luck. He wasn't sitting there thinking "this guy will turn into a top 15 player and I'm getting him for nothing!".

I didn't read past the first sentence.
