Back in the day we worked on the Tulalip Casino Hotel expansion. One of the rules of the contract was that every sub had to hire at least one rezident to work with them.It shows how our noble Red Man has learned well from his Sicilian friends on how things get done.We got a kid who was struggling with life to say the least. I took a shower with him liking to him and spent time talking to him. He knew and I knew that he didn't have to work but I pointed out that he could actually, you know, learn a trade as long as he was showing up and getting paid. Help fight the boredom.He started doing so and was told to knock it off. I guess Rez politics are a lot like white politics, keep them dependent. He was actually kind of bummed and a little nervous. I'm not sure why this popped into my mind or what it means other than almost anything we try is going to get fucked up because - people.And I long for the days of driving Tonka over the cliff for food and fur. I am a huge Sherman Alexie minion. Mostly because he hoops but also because his stories are good reads on the human condition. I never get the sense that he blames whitey for every shitty thing that has happened in his life - but acknowledges that whitey fucked the red man in the past and soldiers on. Life is fucking hard. Deal. Plus he writes about shit like beating off and grabbing tits and other stuff that I like.
