In large measure, what makes Washington rank high on this particular list is research output. For 99 1/2% of the undergraduates, they will never come within 100 miles of that aspect of the school. Washington does have some departments that are absolutely world class. Computer science ranking among them. But there's a lot more that goes into a great undergraduate education than a few departments. Fortunately, Washington has become much more selective in their undergraduate population. But Notre Dame is even more selective. Again, not a fan. But given the quality of students with whom you will be going to school, one could do a whole lot worse than Notre Dame. And, I dare say, it is better than Washington. But, there is no doubt, that Washington is a better research university. Washington is also a better research university than Dartmouth; but you would find very very few of the tippy tippy tippy top students who would choose Washington over Dartmouth, all else being equal. -

“It was really crazy. It was really a week before that too. I let things relax with recruiting and stuff and then up until the last month before Signing Day I didn’t necessarily have doubts, but I was going back and forth between schools. Up until then, I was at least majority Washington. Then it was all even. It was hard because of the early signing day. It did make me things through quickly because if that wasn’t there, I would have just been waiting until the last minute and dealing with it.”
On if his Letter-of-Intent in front of him was from Notre Dame…
“I honestly don’t know what it was. Honestly, there were two other kids signing with me, Duke and Carlos, and they all had papers in front of them. I didn’t even plan on showing up because I didn’t know what to do. Up until the night before I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to show up, but there were news people there so my coach wanted me to show up. I just went there and everyone had papers in front of them and then the news said, ‘Act like you’re signing,’ so my mom just ripped a paper out of her bag and gave it to me. “There is definitely not an edge in terms of tripping point. One day I’m leaning one way and then the next I’m leaning elsewhere. That’s why I’m taking my time. “It’s not necessarily pushing me toward a school, but more about pushing more to look at particular aspects of the school. Things like one of them saying, ‘Which coaching staff do you like more?’ or another saying that coaching staffs don’t matter.” (Sounds like family likes Pete and Lake and HC likes ND but not necessarily Kelly. On if his coach will play a role in his final decision…
“My coach has been there through everything. When I make a decision, he won’t be sitting right next to me, but he’s a factor. Even when I made my first decision, he was there for me. He has a good relationship with coach Pete and all of the Washington coaches, and coach Polian. He’s pretty even.”
