It's not the 60's anymore. Either the 1860's or 1960's. World history is filled with violence and despair and slavery and genocide.
For better or worse the Southern economy at the time was dependent on manual labor ... it was what it was and in no way anything that anything more than a significantly small portion of today's society would endorse in the present or going forward.
I guess my feelings on the topic is that the times were so very different that judging people today with our norms against the norms of 150 years ago just isn't right ...
I understand why certain things associated with that time period from people to flag to whatever bother some people. But not everything or everyone was bad ... we shouldn't just sweep that period out of sight and be blind to it IMO ... learn and understand it ... move forward from it -

That time period is a very important part of our history ... there are definitely some parallels of then versus now in terms of how people feel they are being represented by Washington -
