Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse University assistant coach Mike Hopkins is taking over as the head coach at the University of Washington, according to several media reports.

Hopkins, a former Syracuse player and longtime assistant to SU coach Jim Boeheim, had been expected to succeed Boeheim after the 2017-18 season.

Hopkins will replace Lorenzo Romar, the former Washington head coach who was fired last week.

This. He coached under Boeheim for 20 years, but he probably would have a head coaching job already if he was any good. This is underwhelming at best.

Way rather have Tony Bennett.

Doesn't make my heart sing but it's not bad. If he can bring some east coast toughness, length and anything remotely looking like Syracuse, it's better than a hole in the head.

altman who was 327-176 as a head coach at creighton

hopkins who has never ran his own program before (but went 4-5 as interim coach)
