The only relevant example above is the Berlin Wall, and it was pretty fucking effective for several decades. I don't foresee the Messican Army sacking El Paso or or San Diego anytime soon, and the Border Patrol would spot their tubs of hot oil from miles away before they ever got a chance to dump it or launch there catapulted stones.
