Washington is about to play in the conference championship, and this is jood's (a writer for the Seattle Times) second story on oregon this week, and it's only Wednesday. Then he compounds his focus on oregon with stupid shit like this: "It was just four years ago that Oregon had a coaching vacancy … but was the rare program in that situation that did not try to woo Petersen. And if it had? Petersen probably would be coaching in Eugene right now."

First of all, when discussing why he came to Washington, Petersen always emphasizes two things: 1) The quality of the education and the degree; and 2) the opportunities that kids have in a large and economically successful city like Seattle. oregon's academic reputation is shitty (much has been written about this), and opportunities in eugene? Come on.

Does anyone know the address of jood's parents' home in Tukwila? I'd like to hire a guy to torch their basement.

You left out "The Oregon job, according to a source close to Petersen, is one Petersen would have strongly considered after Chip Kelly left for the NFL in January 2013."

So, just so I have this straight, Jood, UW's beat writer should have penned another "its hard" or a "one game at a time" article. Maybe he could have provided an in depth analysis of the effect grass will have on John Ross and Ossai and overlooked the fact UW's arch nemesis canned their coach? Followed by an "Oregon fucked up and could have hired Peterman", who according to Jood's source "would have strongly considered" taking the job piece?

First of all, do you know how easy it is to quote an unnamed "source?" Not hard.

Secondly, how about a story showing some analysis about the difficulty of attacking cu's defense. Or how about an in-depth piece on how the two coaches turned around their respective programs.

I guess your imagination can only envision an "it's hard" story or a piece on "natural grass and John Ross." Plenty of other more relevant topics out there for a UW/Seattle audience.

The Turn around stories have been beaten to death. You said earlier -I agreed- "fuck the media" who push Pete for stories.

I don't give a fuck if Pete gives the media anything to write about. Injuries. Game planning. Opponent analysis etc. From your past statements, you didn't either.

What else is Jood supposed to write? He sucks. No arguement there. Seattle is not exactly loaded with Woodward (fuck off pool boy) and Bernstein's

As far as "unnamed sources" Most sources these days won't talk without anonymity.

It doesn't surprise me Peterman had interest in the Oregon job when Kelly left. Peterman himself said he was getting itchy feet and he had a history with Oregon. The UW job wasn't open. Sark had just hired Wilcox, Tosh, and Sirmon and looked like he might be there a while.

If anything, Jood's article is pro Washington. Oregon fucked up by not hiring Peterman. UW is on the verge of going to the playoffs and Oregon is a tire filled dumpster fire.

    What I've learned today:

In order to get a good job in Seattle, you must have attended a school in Seattle.

I'm wondering why Pullman's population is so low given that 8,000 people receive their degrees every year there.

You're such a doog sometimes. Oregon is a strongly mediocre school. Not showing off, not slacking off too bad. And nobody stays in Eugene after they graduate. There's this magical place called Portland just to the north, and another magical place called the Bay Area about 5 hours drive south with millions of people and good jerbs.

    Denial.

Where do I begin: “What has been more difficult, however, is for Oregon to remain competitive with the top-tier research universities that it has for decades described as its peers. Save a few marquee programs, Oregon often fails now to measure up to higher education’s heavy hitters, which bring in more federal grants, produce more doctoral degrees, and boast higher graduation rates.

"Oregon falls behind for some good reasons, most notably its relatively modest array of academic programs. Without cash cows like engineering, medicine, and pharmacy, Oregon cannot expect to generate the kind of research dollars that the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor or the University of Washington might.”

Not sure if this comment fits the thread, but there is a sports bar down the street from my house that is an "Oregon" bar and has a bunch of their gear on the walls.

The bar tender working openly bitches about the lack of traffic this season and blames it on the bandwagon nature of the parking lot rapists.

The collapse couldn't have happened to a better program.
