Between Gaines/Vea/Qualls our ability to control the los and collapse the pocket on the qb has been incredible this year.

Oregon State had a decent amount of success running between the tackles and throwing in the middle of the field (which imo is this teams achilles heel on defense along with our de's . Was that because they were using Qualls in his place on some plays?

Teams aren't going to be able to throw at King or Jones, but both Cal and the Cougs are very good at hitting the quick slants in the middle of the field where their qb's get the ball out of the hands in 3 seconds or less.

Umm...no. Edge players bring a different element and fill a different role than interior players.

    Mathis' absence will hurt.

It's time for Benning to put his big boy pants on... serisouly this guy should be ready to go. Vault himself into the off season as the edge rusher we all thought he would be

I know Benning is only a RS-freshman, but he's played in several games this year and hasn't done shit.

Benning as a Fr is out producing Mathis as a Fr or Soph.

It was Conan OBrien that got the start, anyway. He did fine.

True... maybe. Although, I'd chalk this up to the "new card" that can be anything Benning is a red shirt freshman, but hasn't really played all that much or any first-string cooperations I can remember, but he may turn into something to atleast keep things manageable if exposed enough.

I thought OBrien looked pretty good.

But I was pretty fucked up.

Any dispute of my findings could certainly be correct.

That looked like a team that got up 21 points quick and got bored to me. Mathis is going to hurt, but I think the hashing the middle yesterday was more of an aberration

More worried that the 1DL got pushed around a little in the second half.

If Sark was coaching this team, Benning would be starting and would look like shit. He still plays like a high schooler who is faster and stronger than everyone else on the field. He gets sucked in on zone-reads and takes bad angles.

I think he'll be good, but not yet.

The entire defense came out flat in the second half. They were also up 31-0 and the Beav. Coaches will be pissed off, and the team will respond.

He's a physical specimen and moves well for his size. Instinctively, he's subpar. Will he improve with experience? Maybe. In the near future it's a big concern if Mathis doesn't return.

Going forward, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't end up playing inside after Qualls leaves.

I think what's worrying is that a team like Cal, Alabama, or Clemson can put up four touchdowns in a hurry if you come out flat in the second half. Oregon State sucks and still put 17 on the d.

Look at how pissed the Seahawk defense is when they give up garbage time points. That's where you want to be when you're making the jump to being elite.

"Faster?" Not sure what you're watching, but there is no way Benning is fast.

We go up 31-0 at halftime vs. Alabama and your concern is the defense will relax in the second half and we'll lose?

He looks faster than Mathis but his poor instincts make him appear slower.

Do you all really think that kids aren't going to lose some focus when they know they are fighting cripples? They just came off demolishing oregon and stepping on their neck the entire game only to come home to a team St John Bosco could probably contend with. They came out with a drive and fucked up OSU and then the balloon deflated like swaye without a syringe and viagra.

They will bring the edge next week. That, I have no doubt about
