3rd down Browning is still there. And the starters only managed 24 total yards of total offense in the third quarter last night. This team has a lot to prove.
Brownsocks is Brownsocks until he:
1) Makes multiple plays on 3rd downs in one game against a good opponent.
2) Leads (and makes plays on) a drive when we are behind to put us ahead at a critical juncture (see the opposite vs. Cal, Utah & Boise '15).
3) Takes the ball with a lead on a good team and widens the lead to put the final nails in the coffin (see the opposite vs. ASU '15).
After these last two games I might add:
4) Does not turn the ball over in our own territory because he has backside pressure (this is inexcusable).
If he does that, he's not Brownsocks.
It's not that high a bar. It's what QBs who are winners do.
I like and appreciate Jake for all his pre-snap Jesus shit, but if he doesn't do these four things he's just a football nerd with a shitty arm. If he does these things, we can start calling him Cobra or Kellen Moore II or whatever.
I thought the same thing last night while watching several teams come back from deficits to win yesterday. That's the trait of a winner, and I'm not convinced we? have that yet. We'll see. In fairness, #ProveIt deserves LIFPO, but I won't be shocked if to see the Huskies fail to come from behind against quality opponents.
Beating them in Eugene would be notable
It's just fucking standards. I'm so fucking sick of this bullshit over arguing about Jakey or anyone else.
Listen—we all know our defense can play well, Jake can play well, Myles can play well, etc.
But what are the standards? The standard at the QB position is playing well generally and then coming through at key moments.
Last year all the 'I want to win' plays we had (we only won two games that were ever close: USC & USM) were made by Myles Gaskin on offense. All of them.
And he made plays against Oregon to keep us in the game. He doesn't have shit to prove.
But Brownsocks does.
Doogs hate standards, but the standards are clear: win games. So far Jakey has been shaky on that one.
But if he wins against good teams, who would complain? Only fucking idiots.
Tui did a lot of dumb shit, but in the end, he was a winner and had balls of steel. I'm not going to nitpick about dumb shit he did because we always won and he made plays when it counted.
No serious "nega" would be bashing Jake if we BONEM. The standards are clear. It's not hard to understand.
UW ran 5 plays in the third quarter.
First drive started with a holding penalty so UW went 3 and out after gaining 14.
UW then started the next drive with 6 and 4 yard gains and a first down before the quarter ended (drive ended in a TD.)
The quarter (arbitrarily) ended on a UW first down. UW scored a TD which was their second drive of the half. The first was 3 plays for 14 yards.
CHRIST.
Short version: Dreck in all three phases. Game was never in question, but not the point. The starters showed plenty of dreck in the 3rd quarter.
