Many people thought WSU hit the lottery when Mike Leach was hired - a coach of his stature wouldn't have been attainable for the lowly Cougs but for being rendered untouchable after waterboarding Craig James' kid.
And Leach has failed - but that doesn't mean it was a bad idea. Dating out of your league for a little while if you get the opportunity isn't ever a bad idea.
That is why WSU should fire Mike Leach and hire Art Briles. He even runs a similar offense, so they'd have roster compatibility and continuity.
A few years ago, they could've gotten Mark Mangino or Bobby Petrino that way. On their own merits, they got Paul Wulff.
Everything gets caught on cell phones now. Nobody's going to get away with shit. You're going to see more and more of these scandals, so the pipeline should fill up every so often.
WSU should aim to become a way station for disgraced head coaches.
