Welcome to the Hardcore Husky Forums. Folks who are well-known in Cyberland and not that dumb.

How bout illegals, perpetually unemployed blacks, and a lesser extent whites (statistically)...

...join the military to earn their keep. There are a lot of hard working blacks, whites, and a few mexicans who serve our country voluntarily. How about we stick those looking for citizenship, and those lazy Americans who've greazed our system for so long on a military payment plan? Plus the welfare moms who've greazed the system for so long. As soon as the 10 kids move on, put their lazy asses on military duty. The reserves will work just fine.

Next time we go to war, which will be soon, they'll get a taste of what it is to be an American. That'll cut down on welfare, immigration and laziness. Think Ted Cruz will throw it on his platform when he runs for president? He's a man of the people he says. And what people wouldn't want reimbursement for their hard-earned tax dollars spent?

Um, we dont want welfare cases. The military is actually hard work, and we need motivated, able bodied people.

Irishdoog, what branch of service were you in? Active, reserve, or guard? Any deployments?

As retired military, I could not agree more. Last thing I want is a bunch of no account slack asses in combat.

I would like to like it,.... your concept of militarizing what fiscal-social conservatives consider to be the slackers in American society. But it was once tried and found to be unconstitutional... truly as in decided by the supreme court. It seems that government cannot compete with private sector companies, individuals, or corporations for performing work under government contract.

Way back in the Great Depression when there was no public welfare, FDR attempted something similar to what you're suggesting by setting up project oriented Federal agencies designed to put people to work without involving the private sector, which at the time was undermanned, under skilled, and incapable of taking on the large programs and projects needed to make a dent in the then 30% unemployment problem (without welfare or in most states any kind of workman's compensation laws, every man working and not working were counted in the percent unemployed calculation, whereas women were not). Some of these agencies such as WPA, CCC, and Army Corp of Engineers were allowed to be legal so long as their work was public projects on in Federal jurisdictions such as National Parks and military bases.

I've always believed that to make social welfare truly useful, we must receive something in return for our tax dollars other than poor and unemployable people and their families living in healthy, sheltered environments. But there are far too many speed bumps such as requiring government contractors to hire welfare recipients and the unemployed. Real workplace education including job training is a big part of this and America at present isn't doing squat to force the poor and lower working classes into bootstrap improvements.

When you look at the numbers, especially those that are continuing to build our national debt, far too much fiscal resource is being squandered on the rich and corporately powerful not to mention white-collar crooks and robber barons on both Streets, Wall and Main, to ever hope for the kind of reform you are suggesting. Politicians at all levels, Federal and State regardless of party or affiliation, Democrat, Republican, Tea party, Liberal, Conservative, Progressive, or Moderate are owned by the Streets who are elected official's only true constituents. If its reform by revolution that we The People need, conditions will have to get a lot worse before such could ever happen.

In the meantime, we are at war with a very dangerous enemy in the form of terrorism, jihadist or otherwise. Whether you want to call it holy war, crusade against evil, or simply preservation of our national security and that of our friends, this war realistically could go on for centuries and cost more than can be presently calculated. The terrorists goal and their only chance for victory is to bleed us to death resource wise. We need to stop picking stupid or silly fights with small flaky causes and nearly irrelevant nations, such as the Arab Spring fiascos and conflicts with Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, etc and focus most of our resources on killing terrorists wherever they live or lurk. Intelligence and military technologies and resources including boots on the ground and in reserve must be developed and deployed asap. And as you suggest, we need to bite the bullet and accept the monumental task of making the poor and unemployable in America part of this effort.

Above all we need to stop the practice of building huge financial reserves needed for protection of our economies and financials against the next Wall&Main Street casino collapse by getting real and regulating the shit out of the motherfucking too-big-to-fail banks, corporations, crooks, robber barons, and capitalist pigs who own and operate this shit. For that, we'll need an elected government working for us to fight poverty and terrorism, including that which continuously threatens The People's dreams and security with every new investment scam they can sneak past the regulators. Good luck with that.
