Richard G. Ellenbogen, MD, FACS is Professor and Chairman of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and is the Theodore S. Roberts Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neurological Surgery. He is also the co-director of the Seattle Sports Concussion Program for Seattle Children’s Hospital and UW Medicine. In addition, Dr. Ellenbogen is Chief of Neurological Surgery at Harborview Medical Center and the residency and fellowship director for the Department of Neurological Surgery. He is a co-author of Principles of Neurological Surgery, 3rd Edition.

Dr. Ellenbogen is an adjunct professor in the Department of Global Health and the Department of Radiology. He is co-chair of the National Football League (NFL) Head, Neck and Spine Medicine Committee. Dr. Ellenbogen is currently an officer with the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons and was past-president of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Dr. Ellenbogen received his medical degree from Brown University, and completed a neurosurgery residency at The Children’s Hospital/Boston, Brigham & Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He then fulfilled his military duties at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and was the neurosurgical director of the Defense and Veteran’s Head Injury Program (DVHIP). He was awarded bronze star for his actions during the first Gulf War conflict in 1991, taking care of head injured soldiers.

With clinical interests in a variety of fields, Dr. Ellenbogen currently focuses on adult and pediatric head trauma, pediatric neurosurgery, endoscopic brain surgery, and congenital malformations in adults. His NIH funding is in the area of molecular imaging of brain tumors within the NCI funded Nanotechnology platform and Training Grant at UW. He has been named a U.S. News Top Doctor in the top 1% in the nation in his specialty, and a Seattle Magazine Top Doctor.

Dr. Ellenbogen is a god at UWMC. His office occupies the penthouse suite at Harborview. Among the many hats he wears, the State of Washington paid him a combined total compensation of about $452K in 2014.

And UW just agreed to pay Jen Cohen $460K base, plus incentives.
