Public College Job Descriptions

Holy Shit....I thought this was common knowledge about job descriptions but obviously we need a refresher. As one who works for the most prestigious college in the Portland/Vancouver area let me be of assistance
Every job has a "range"...most are relatively narrow but some are broad (like CP). In the middle of someone's contract you just can't give them a raise outside of their range. HR won't let you...can't do it. You can ask for a salary reclassification but that takes a long f-ing time. So what is the way around it? You create a brand new job with a whole new range....this is how your DB Coach also becomes Associate DC....or now you RB Coach is also Run Game Coordinator. It's a whole new set of responsibilities (and now justification for more pay) now that you are also the Don James 3rd Down Short Yardage Red Zone Coordinator.
So pipe down about these fake job titles....they don't mean shit.
