I remember watching a doc on a U.S. missile defense system last year that was being tested. There's an island off the coast of California that houses this laser/anti missile system. When they fired that laser to destroy a missile it made that same exact sound as in one of those videos in the link above. That "w.w.w.w.w.wuummp" sound near the end of the vid...was most likely that same laser system being tested.
