So we know Saudi Arabia is backing the Islamic State, and are pretty sure

You like to oversimplify geopolitics, that's what you like to do.

I think you overestimate Tebow's roll in geopolitics.

    Jet fuel can't melt steel

A limp noodle will hold up a meatball just as good as a melted noodle will.

You like to oversimplify geopolitics, that's what you like to do.

It isn't an oversimplification at all. It is clarity.

The Israel lobby and the Saudi lobby both want us to hate Iran.

The religious right think it is their moral obligation to support god's chosen people and thus do whatever Israel wants; and the power brokers of the imported oil dependent economy think we need to do what the Saudis want, because "they are our friends".

With friends like the Saudis (backers of 9/11 and of IS)... who the fuck needs enemies?

The "issue" of Iran is just to distract the sheople.

In 20 years Iran will be an ally of the US. It is a country with huge potential in the decades to come. It has excellent demographics and the young people are modernized, educated and very pro West. The old nutjobs there don't like the US because it overthrew their government and installed a tyrant. The young people have no recollection of that. In another decade or two the old nutjobs will be gone.

If you want to make accusations out here, take responsibility for them. Sign your real name to them. If not, that's what gets deleted. Always have, always will. You don't get to trash people out here anonymously. Use your real name or don't do it.

I'm sorry, but Saudi supports Jaish not IS because IS could metastasize within the kingdom and lead to internal revolt as is currently happening in Egypt.

Iran has been the only thing propping up the genocidal Assad regime for the last 18 months, so good luck telling Syrian Sunnis who have fled the country that Iran is a paper tiger.

    Saudi supports Jaish not IS
Jaish is the new player that Saudi is propping up now. Before them, they were supporting IS, if not the official Kingdom, then wealthy Saudi citizens that live under the protection of the monarchy -- just like the wealthy Saudi supporters of 9/11. These wealthy citizens are still supporting the IS terrorists. But Iran is what the sheople worry about.

Saudi Arabia has always been a monarchy (tyranny) -- while Iran had a democracy (before the US oil fear mongers overthrew it).

Iran is not the enemy. Saudi Arabia is.

Fresh blood to throw into the hungry maw of battle is what counts, and until this week that role has been filled solely by Iran and Hizbullah. Weapons and money are nice, but then again Assad has always outgunned the opposition so that isn't the issue. You claim to find the Saudi monarchy problematic but have no issue with the theocrats in Iran? I tend to find more common ground with the average Persian, but common cultural ground shouldn't be the basis of a foreign policy.

I couldn't agree more but until the younger generation can wrest the power from the ayatollahs , they will remain a huge threat to the region and the world with a nuke.
