USA today article on Browning - dec '14

This guy was seeing things as a 16 year old that Lindquist still doesn't see:

We were playing a game in his sophomore year, and from the sideline I thought the crossing route was wide open,” Taylor says. “Jake threw it away and the drive ended, and I came over on the sideline and I said, ‘Why didn’t you hit the crossing route?’

“He goes into this long explanation that when he dropped back, the official was in the way. By the time it was clear, the protection was breaking down and he couldn’t get the ball there. I thought, ‘Right. This guys is just blowing smoke.’ Then we watched the film that night, and it was like a photographic memory thing. Everything he said, that’s exactly what we were looking at.

“I told David Cutcliffe (the Duke coach, who mentored Peyton Manning at Tennessee and Eli Manning at Mississippi) that story, and he was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s just like one of my first interactions with Eli.’ There are a lot of good quarterbacks, but I think there are a few who see the field really slowly, at a different speed than anyone else. Like Tom Brady. I think that’s kind of how Jake sees the field.”

Day before the 1st game, we've reached peak doog.

I'm so confused, because it feels like there is a lot to like about this team, but every "objective" observer is totally down on the dawgs. Pundits are actually taking the under on a four win season.

And I cant shake both the bowl game last year and Pete's first trip to husky stadium. Both games he had time to prepare and his teams looked sloppy and mentally weak.

    We'll see...

And how often have we (collectively) been right on this board compared to the general consensus?

    Fair enough.

But did anyone on this board think we'd lose to Okie state?

Sorry (not really) to crap in the middle of this party, but Browning was picked off more in summer camp than any other QB, at least according to my unofficial tally.

Is he probably the best option right now? Sure. Will he eventually be really good? Probably. But he is (along with all of us) going to go through some rough patches. Book it.

    I'll doog later.

He will have rough patches ...

He'll make more mistakes most likely than what we saw last year ...

He'll make more high-end plays than what we saw last year ...

The hope is that the number of positive plays he makes exceeds the mistakes and net net we're ahead at the position of where we were last year (which I think we will be).

This is why I'm convinced Lindquist is going to be the starter in a run-heavy attack

If only Lindy had ever shown he's capable of that in a game situation. He's the opposite of a gamer, until proven otherwise.

The whole Cyler Miles was the safe QB who didn't make mistakes narrative needs to DIAFF.

Yeah he only had 4 INTs but he also fumbled 13 times (losing 6) and was sacked 21 times. Those aren't the stats of a game manager who can safely move the offense down the field.

Cyler didn't start because he made less mistakes than the other QBs. He started because the other QBs were even fucking worse than him.
