The difference between old school and new school NBA

The studio show on TNT is all in agreement that Kendrick Perkins should start game 2 for the Cavs. Someone to body up Gasol. Even though you'd be playing 3 on 5 offensively and Gasol scored all his points on mid range jump shots which Perkins can't cover at all.

Now Barkleys saying Cleveland needs more space. After saying they should start Mozgov and Perkins together. Fucking idiot.

If Cleveland goes small, then there's no shot blockers in the lane and the defense has to over-commit to stop any penetration, post play, etc. leading to wide open jumpers either for Gasol/Gibson in the mid-range or open 3's. The upside for Cleveland is that it probably gives them the best chance to be efficient offensively and open up the lane for their own attacks.

If Cleveland goes big, they are better able to protect the paint and then able to better contest Chicago's mid-range and perimeter games. The downside is that offensively there will be even fewer open lanes for LBJ and Irving to attack.

This is Cleveland's biggest problem in the series because no matter what they do Chicago has an answer for them.

I think Cleveland proved tonight that starting Mike Miller and having him play Pau probably isn't a recipe for success.

None of that is relevant to Kendrick Perkins. He's not a shot blocker. He can't cover mid range shots. The only thing he's good at is post defense and Chicago only went to the post a few times. One of which was Noah vs James Jones (Jones is one of the worst defenders in the NBA) and Noah couldn't even get a decent shot up vs him.

Love being out presents problems for Cleveland, yes. Perkins solves none of them. Starting him with Mozgov is probably the worst idea anyone has had since Sam Presti gave Perk 40 million dollars.
