The poont that I think that flying boat guy is trying to make is that the current Iranian government, while fucked up and shitty, is the *most* democratic and representative government that cuntry has had since we overthrew Mossadegh in '53. It's a big part of the reason why people over there look at us sideways when we say we support freedom. Historically - that isn't the case. And as bad as the religious nutjobs running the country since 1979 are... the Shah was worse. And he was worse with the full backing and support of the United States, democrats and republicans alike.
Culturally, Iranians aren't Arabs - and have historically been a much more successful and less warlike culture than their neighbors to the west. Fun fact - Iran hasn't invaded anyone in centuries, and have been invaded multiple times by their neighbors.
Get the religious nutjobs out of the way, and they are probably some of the only folks in the Middle East we might be able to work with. -
