Agree - key point to remember for all the mouthbreathers. Fortunately, we don't have too many of those here

Who is actually emboldening these groups? Do folks on this board think these are simply organic movements?

Unfortunately, our country's foreign policy is beyond fucked up. We put the Shah in power, put Saddam in power, financed bin laden and al qaeda, backed al qaeda and fervently gave them weapons to overthrow a moderate assad and have now re-branded them as ISIS and are supposed to pretend none of that shit ever happened. Both parties are equally guilty but the establishment's done their job because we're too busy arguing over Bush/Obama and what the Sarkdashians had for dinner last night. We are so fucked.

    Agreed.

Why don't we back the Kurds? They are the only ones who seem like they have their shit together and I'm not too concerned with pissing off Turkeys' Erdogan since he's been a thorn in our side and is no longer "mildly Islamist" (as the Economist mag likes to call him).

We should also give up all our rights because al qaeda...I mean ISIL..I mean ISIS or Bush's buddy bin laden the boogeyman might attack us. Even though you're more likely to die from a crocodile attack and we put these fuckers in power in the first place. Saddam was a powerful dictator, but like assad, at least he kept the order. They knew their al qaeda buddies would fill the power vacuum. It's all a fucking board game to these people.

But I thought they were all the same?

    Why? Are you stupid?
I guess you missed the sarcasm.
I guess you missed the point. Arguing that not every last Muslim on earth isn't a terrorist misses the point that we have to deal with the multitude that are and their sympathizers. The Nazi were a minority party in Germany. Who cares?

Motivation and numbers distract from the real issue. The threat is real the world is still a violent dangerous place and if the super power won't act the dark ages beckon.

    ... in other words...

The Turks were fucked up long before WWI. Then John Maynard Keynes & Woodrow Wilson redrew the borders and fucked it up worse.

Running the world isn't easy. We had to choose between Hitler and Stalin. Hi DJ

Every action has a reaction. People forget that the sand people went with Hitler because they hated jews before 1948.

We had to reshuffle the deck and redraw the borders. It remains a work in progress. Mistakes have been made. Shit happens.

The fall of the Soviet Union opened another can of shit.

Real libs like FDR believed in American exceptionalism while conservatives were isolationist and sympathetic to Hitler.

That worm has turned too. Most dumb ass youngsters think America is the root of evil. Fuck em. I'll be dead by the time you piss this away. The barbarians are at the gate

Last I checked it was the Brits and French that drew the borders in the Middle East.

Also, color me not surprised that people are still confusing Isis and al Qaeda.

Agree with everything you said. I love our country but don't trust our government. But all governments are inherently evil so that doesn't make us unique. Our government (depending on who's pulling the strings) is less evil than most and our constitution and what our country is founded upon (which is slowly eroding) is what actually makes our country exceptional. Not the ever-expanding federal government.

The post-Ottoman partition has been disastrous, needs to be torn up and redrawn.

Big part of Arab support for the Germans was anti-British/French geopolitics, we scratch your back, you scratch ours and kick out the colonizers. Not that the Nazis would have been any different.
