"Potoa’e didn’t have much of relationship with UW’s previous coaching staff under Steve Sarkisian. Five years ago, his older brother Sione — who, like Benning, was a four-star defensive line recruit out of Lakes — didn’t have the experience or success he had hoped at UW. That turned Benning away from UW early, and scholarship offers from the likes of UCLA, Oregon and Ohio State turned his attention elsewhere.
“We weren’t going to go to UW,” his father, Aleki, said.
But UW’s new coaching staff made Potoa’e a priority, and Benning’s official visit to the UW campus last weekend “had my head spinning,” he said. Petersen’s emphasis on education was the biggest selling point for Aleki and Sherry Potoa’e.
“I think Coach Petersen is going to bring something special back,” said Aleki Potoa’e, an Army first sergeant stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. “But (Benning) going to UW to connect with them, it was special. … (Petersen) is a good man. He’s not just a good coach — he’s a good man with the way he runs his program.”
But are we willing to trade him for Marcus Farria?
I would pay 500 dollars (perhaps 1,000) to watch kim argue with Aleki Potoa'e about how great sark is, and then watch Aleki punch 'make love to' kim in the face.
