    AP Top 25

    1 Kentucky
    2 Virginia
    3 Gonzaga

Not enough space between Kentucky and the rest of college basketball

College basketball is fucking garbage. As soon as the top prep players start choosing en masse to play out their 1-year NBA hiatus in Europe or China, like Emanuel Mudiay did this year, the sport becomes like college baseball or soccer where only the shittiest players elect to go to college at all and the best play overseas or in a legitimate NBA minor league (not the current NBDL farce).

The sport is dying and it will get worse.

I don't really like college basketball, but I don't think what you posted will happen. 18 year olds don't want to go overseas and be all alone when they could be the man at college. I do wish they did it like baseball and let players leave out of high school or play three years. That would improve the product.

Some have tried China already, and more will in the future. There was word Kevon Looney at UCLA almost did it.

You get paid, you only focus on hoops, and its an opportunity to build a global brand in a gigantic, growing basketball-mad country. If I was an 18yr old Lebron James or Kobe Bryant - that's what I would do if I was god-fearing-american-blooded capitalist. If I was a super agent that's what I'd push my client to do as well. Fuck a dorm bed and Sociology 1A at Duke for 9months.

But you're right, China probably won't catch on en masse, but what would be the NBAs reaction if China becomes an annual route for US born players instead of the college one-and-done farce? I think that would be an impetus for the NBA to really invest in building a strong minor league developmental system - and that would be CBBs end with NBA level talent.

For the NBA - outsourcing free professional development to Colleges = Awesome! Letting Chinese leagues take it over = long-term business risk.

    1. Cash will help players find comfort in playing overseas... same as ever.

    2. Empty gyms in high schools and colleges all over the country prove basketball is a dying sport.
