The University of Alabama trustees control UAB, and for some crazy reason Bryant Jr is scared of UAB having even a mediocre football program. So they successfully vetoed the hire of Jimbo Fisher. Now UAB struck gold with Clark, and that has accelerated the rumored closing of the program.

Alabama is smaller than Washington, and has 5 FBS and 4 FCS teams. And if UAB had a real on campus stadium, instead of an aging, off-campus dump, the support is there for Clark to turn it into a solid C-USA program.

Boo fucking hoo the med school is in Birmingham and not Tuscaloosa.

Blakeney is finally retiring after 24 years at Troy, where he took the program from D 2 to FCS to FBS. Clark has gone from HS to FCS to C-USA pretty quickly, and his rep/connections with hs coaches in Alabama is amazing, so I could see him getting the job at Troy.

UAB's qb is a jc transfer who started at WSU. We do not want him.

There are always the blick schools. There have to be 25 or 30 from Texass to Virginia. They're all "FCS."

They aren't the last. I predict many schools following suit. Football costs a lot of money to compete in when you're a perennial dreckfest with little hope and no fan support. We've never witnessed a coordinated attack, from the President of the United States on down, on the sport like we're seeing now, either. Lawsuits in the headlines are now commonplace. General budgets and Athletic budgets at small medium schools are being stretched thin yet fueled in part by a parabolic rise in student loan debt.

Student fan apathy has spiked across the country, too. Youth participation is falling. Middle schools and high schools are scaling back, de-emphasizing football and Friday Night Lights. Local/regional news coverage of youth to high school sports has evaporated.

Is UAB wrong? I don't know. Maybe they're just early to the party?

The football coach is the highest paid PUBLIC employee in the state! Why are we raising tuition when the football coaches are making millions!!!' We can't fund our local schools but the state pays the coaches millions to coach a game!!!
