Cowherd made a very good point a couple days ago. In the NBA, the worst place to be is average. The only way to get better quick is to be Kal for a couple seasons. That's how San Antonio got Duncan when Robinson got hurt, the Blazers were able to get Lillard and Aldridge, the Warriors with Curry, and the Clippers with Griffin. The Lakers just need to be horrible for two years, let Kobe go and sign another All-Star to go with their two top 5 draft picks. I guess Laker fan will have to hope their GM drafts well.

It comes down to getting a top pick when a true franchise player is available (LeBron, Durant, Duncan, Anthony Davis). It's a little different for the Lakers because once they have cap room and Kobe's gone, there will be players who want to sign with the Lakers.

There's a lot of luck in the NBA ...

Not only do you have to get a high pick, but you have to have players there that are franchise players.

You also need to count on fucktarded GMs to fuck up ... taking Oden #1 instead of Durant; Bowie #2 instead of Jordan, etc.

That point was applicable before Cowherd was even born, hth.
