(Has Cyler matured the last week or so and what have you seen from him?) “Nothing dramatically changes in one week. We’re not going to become a dramatically better team or dramatically worse team in one week. This is a process. That’s the main point we try and get to our guys. Your role isn’t going to change dramatically in one week. You’ve got to keep…you’ve got to have that grit, passion, and perseverance mixed together. That’s what it is; you’ve got to have that grit to be able to work over time. And then things will start to change. You learn little lessons along the way, and hopefully you’re better for them. I think there’s some of that, but…Stanford’s a good defense. That keeps proving out week-in and week-out. That was some tough sledding and there’s some things we could do different as coaches, like we said. And he could do some things different. So hopefully we’re all learning and getting a little bit better each week. After some more time it looks a lot different.”

(Cal scored on seven consecutive possessions…what are they doing well? Hurry-up, no huddle, spread…what are they doing particularly well?) “I would say yes to all your questions. I think this: Yes to all that, but what they do is execute. That’s what this all comes down to. It all comes down to taking care of the details. That’s what you see. They have a nice run game. They have a good running back and a good run game. Even though they want to throw it and have these really good receivers, Goff’s matured as well as anybody I’ve seen around. He hangs in the pocket, is very good in the pocket. But they execute, is what they do. They make tough catches, he makes tough throws. And they just kind of keep coming at you. Then they go fast, and then they kind of keep you on your heels, not getting lined up correctly or fast enough. They execute better than the other side.
