Playoff thoughts

Letting in Tulame and the other mid major school (I can't even remember who it is) is stupid appeasement. This is America, god damnit. Everything else is cut throat. Put in the 12 best teams. Period. If Tulame was in the SEC, they'd be 7-5, at best.

We were told that conference championship games don't count in the selection process. Stupid rule. I believe this was probably spearheaded by the SEC so they shoe horn 5, 6, even 7 teams in.

They used to use actual math to determine the teams, right? It was at least a factor? It's tim to go back to that. The selection committee is obviously a joke and the SEC paid them off. It's about Fox, TNT, and BSPN ratings (or whoever has the gaymes). So don't expect that to change any tim soon.

Blame USC Michigan and Washington for the B1G not having 4 teams

They have to let in G5 teams or it becomes an anti-trust problem for the NCAA. Why do you think shit-tier coastal community colleges get to play in the NCAA hoops tournaments?

It wouldn’t be antitrust if there was a clear path to the playoffs dictated by merit. I don’t know why the G5 criteria is any different than P4. Be in the top 12. Boise was last year. Their one loss was close to #1 Oregon on the road. They had a AllAmerican RB. They clearly deserved to be in the playoff. Not as a top 4 seed but certainly in. Tulane and JMU do not at all deserve it this year. If Tulane had been competitive with Mississippi earlier in the season and run absolute train on the AAC all year I’d be more inclined to say they’re deserving. Neither of those things were true though. JMU is a cruel joke made possible by an awful ACC. It shouldn’t be this hard.

There is no realistic path for G5 schools based on ranking. Their conferences, and how the power 4 conferences have realigned and left them out, dictates that they have no chance of being ranked high enough at the end of the year. They cannot be excluded in the current layout of college football.

Once the power conferences consolidate into an NFL-lite model and leave the NCAA they will set up their playoffs however they want to.

JMU has the strongest X game in the field by far

Boise was top 12 in the rankings just last year with a Heisman finalist RB. They would have got in to the tournament without a mandatory inclusion. Cigarettes last JMU team was undefeated and hosting college game day before they shit themselves and dropped in the polls. Had they won out they might have qualified in my scenario. It wouldn’t be impossible, it just shouldn’t be just any old G5 team. They need to be exceptional. The two this year are underwhelming to say the least and aren’t even top 20 teams. This isn’t like basketball, football is essentially letting the underdog straight into the sweet 16 without upsetting anyone and that’s not right.
