UW’s hoops history is paltry compared to its football history.
If UW football was at the same middling level as the basketball program over the decades, then absolutely you retire the number of a player like Gaskin.
It’s a matter of perspective, and you really can’t compare the two programs in terms of historical significance when it comes to individual players.
But anyone who was around when Welp was at UW knows that he is absolutely one of the most important players in the program’s history.
