Why a Tarik Skubal Trade is "Realistic" for #Mariners

National media have been pushing this since Game 7 of the Series ended.
I doubt it happens. I think Jerry overvalues the pitchers we have currently.

Dip knows the clock is ticking on the window. They have a log jam of prospects in the middle infield, outfield, and catcher. Keep the top MIF prospect to replace JP in a couple years, and the top 2 OFs. Trade prospects for Skooby, then trade Castillo mid-season to shore up what is needed right NOW. They need a LH starter. Castillo is a #1 for 18-20 clubs, he might be a #4 here.
I shook my head when the Doyers signed Snell…”how many guys you need?”. To get to the top, the answer is, “Many”…

Their value is in their affordability…

But would you do it for a likely 1-year rental?
I'd rather trade good prospects for a controllable player (more expensive though). Drew Rasmussen is from Puyallup and went to OSU so maybe TB would be willing to part with him (he has an $8 million option) for 2027.
Drew Rasmussen and Dominic Keegan for Harry Ford and Michael Arroyo?

I hear you,..at this point, if they are throwing around “controllable”, I am fucking out. “Controllable”, “sustainable”, for the last 20 years got them what? They have been close, but they are as close as you can get, not to the playoffs, but to having the opportunity to win it all, and there are no guarantees. The future is now. Send Skubal away next November with a nice parting gift, and TYFYS…

The Mariners have very good pitching, but Skubal is a huge upgrade in a playoff game over anyone the M’s have.
Trade whatever starter they want along with Young and another prospect. It would be preferably if we could give them Kirby or Gilbert over Woo, but I’m sure they would want Woo because he’s cheaper and has more team control. I would try my best to hang onto Emerson over Young.

Trade Kirby and whatever other prospects in the minors that it takes to make it happen.

Ms settled on rolling out the same starting five. No Castillo trade. No Skubal.
It sounds like the priorities are two relief pitchers, resigning Planko or replacing him with someone like Donovan or Lowe. I don't think they'll add two position players each making any kind of money.
Any other deals will be fringe stuff. They'll probably move either Raley or Canzone for prospects or package one in a deal.
Boring stuff

I actually like getting guys at the deadline to improve the roster. It also gives enough time to see if the young guys are major league ready and injuries.
Free agency is a tough game and if ownership doesn’t want to spend, there isn’t much you can do. You have to overspend to get anyone good and half of the guys are just about washed up by the time they enter free agency.
