I really understand this criticism and agree with it ~ totally underwhelmed by Salt N Pepa ~ don’t get it all. However, I can say that the selection criteria that is primarily involved is that the committee is trying to identify artists that have created their own Genre in music ~ in other words, there will never be anyone like them. That isn’t the only criteria but that seems to be the primary theme. In my view, I dont see how Salt n Pepa qualifies but then I also don’t like the HIP Hop Scene at all so there is that ~ but even within that Genre, I don’t see them as being a standout as well.
Lots of people on the lists in history do fit the criteria and this year that was mostly true ~ as an example, Carole Kaye is / was legendary as a bass player and has so many well known licks on the base that DEFINED the sound of lead base on smash hit recordings from dozens of artists ~ the fucking woman was simply the best and redefined the roll of the bass In rock songs thereafter.
Joe cocker is another good example ~ you may or may not have liked his style but once he sang a song it became a Joe Cocker song regardless of who originally wrote it… When he sang the Beatle song a little help from my friends at Woodstock, Up where we belong with Jennifer Warnes or You are so Beautiful, they instantly became His Songs ~ he created his own Genre and everyone will agree, there will never be another Joe Cocker.

As long as Hiro Yamamoto from Soundgarden is in, I will let Salt 'n Pepa be in.
When Soundgarden was being interviewed, the interviewer asked was there any deep cut that has kind of come back to them. Matt Cameron said "Circle of Power"

Ha - very cool overall. You should talk with my dad. He read a book on The Wrecking Crew and has never shut up about Carol Kaye since and I'm tired of hearing about it. Glen Campbell too. Cool that he ended up Bellingham. We've had some really cool notable people retire up here in the northwest corner of the state.

You almost wish they could just re-name it "American Popular Music HOF" since that's really what it is. Have it cover all the genres including rock, soul, pop, hip-hop, etc.
Carol Kaye 100% is should be in. She played Bass on EVERYTHING including Sloop John B which is a top 3 rock song of all time. Interestingly enough, she declined to come to the event and accept.

Motley Crue'? HoF might be a stretch. They certainly were a force in the 80s and with Dr. Feelgood.

REO Speedwagon also the best yacht rock. Go listen to "Roll with the Changes".
In terms of BOC I always think of the "Stoned Age" when they guy was mad at his friend for playing Don't Fear the Reaper. He said it's a "pussy song", and that "every band makes a pussy song to find out who the faggots are."

Ha. The Stoned Age was my favorite movie, for years. Absolute gem that people who grew up partying in Woolley could relate to. Tack is a greatest of all time character. Maybe Snotrag!

I for way too long had Hubbs' response to that question as my favorite quote on my public Facebook (yikes). I interned for the main producer of the movie when I first moved to LA who had become a massive commercial producer and told him it was my favorite movie. He told me that's not something I should tell people.
