For the first time since 2023 — and the first time during Jedd Fisch’s tenure on Montlake — the Huskies earned a ranking in The Associated Press poll.

No. 24 Washington made its 2025 AP poll debut Sunday, despite enjoying a bye this weekend. UW had previously received votes after its most recent game, a convincing 42-25 win against Illinois at Husky Stadium thanks in part to a career day from junior wide receiver Denzel Boston.

The Huskies (6-2, 3-2 Big Ten) never earned a ranking during the past season, meaning their most recent appearance in the AP poll was during the final poll of 2023, when Washington was ranked No. 2 after losing the College Football Playoff championship game 34-13 against Michigan.

UW’s only losses this season were a 24-6 loss at home against No. 1 Ohio State and a 24-7 defeat on the road versus No. 21 Michigan. Washington is one of six Big Ten teams ranked this week, joining Ohio State, No. 2 Indiana, No. 6 Oregon, No. 20 USC and Michigan. Iowa and Illinois also received votes.

While Washington was idle during the past weekend, several teams ranked ahead of it lost. Most notable, No. 25 Cincinnati, ranked No. 17 at the time, suffered a 45-14 loss against No. 17 Utah and Houston, previously No. 22, was beaten by unranked West Virginia 45-35. The Cougars falling out of the rankings elevated the Huskies.

Of course, the AP poll will soon be overshadowed by the CFP poll, which will announce its first rankings Tuesday at 5 p.m. The final CFP poll will be revealed Dec. 7.

Washington returns to action Saturday when it travels to play Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
