    I voted no when in 1996 and every time after. Have we? spent the 4 billion yet?

    On May 19, 1970, King County voters reject four Forward Thrust bond issues for a regional rail transit system, storm water control, community centers, and new County public health and safety facilities. The total local cost of $615.5 million (not counting $900 million in pending federal aid for mass transit) apparently alarms voters amid the deepening Boeing Bust. James Ellis and other civic leaders disband Forward Thrust soon after the vote.

    Second Time Around

    The election essentially resubmitted major components of the original Forward Thrust package, which had failed in 1968. The most important element was $440 million in bonds for a regional mass transit system with 500 miles of bus routes and 49 miles of rail. U.S. Senator Warren G. Magnuson had secured nearly $900 million in federal funding to cover three-fourths of the system's total cost of $1.321 billion -- if local bonds passed.

    Other proposals included $80 million for storm water control, $55.3 million for new community centers, and $40.2 million for new County jails, police stations, and public health centers. Passage of the bonds required a 60 percent yes vote, and all the proposals fell far short amid the deepening "Boeing Bust" recession.

    Derailed?

    Mass transit did the worst with only 46 percent approval. Regional leaders such as Metro founder James Ellis disbanded Forward Thrust, and federal transit funding earmarked for King County was allocated to build Atlanta's MARTA system instead.

    A dispirited Ellis told the press, "If rapid transit is to have a new beginning it will have to come from people other than the Forward Thrust Committee." However, Ellis and many of his comrades would return to the arena within two years, and win voter approval of an all-bus Metro Transit system on September 19, 1972. Regional voters would not fund rail transit until 1996, when they approved the $3.9 billion Sound Transit system.

    Just got my $700 car tab bill because I live within 3 miles of a bus stop or something which connects to a sound transit station with a 30 minute bus ride. My buddy who lives maybe 4-5 miles from the bus stop stop is exempt from the zoning. Fuck this shit. I could have bought a new driver for that money.

    I hear that if you don’t pay your car tabs the fine is pretty small compared to the tab fee itself and they just force you to get current in the existing cycle So you can not pay your tabs for a few years, get one small fine and come out way ahead. And they don't force you to go backwards, yet.

    If I didn’t frequently drive home from the golf course with a couple of beers in me I’d probably just not pay them ever again out of spite.

    There is almost zero reason to pay your car tabs right now.

    it’s like a 150.00 fine on a non moving violation that they’ll wipe if you go and pay the 750.00 tabs fee at the DOL and then take an afternoon off at work to show up at traffic court with the receipt to get the ticket thrown out.

    lol Thanks I think I’ll just pay the ticket. Can I do it right here on site? The police think this shit is so dumb and unless you’re driving a piece of shit with a tail light out or driving like a moron they’re not trying to pull people over for this unless they’re some hardo.

    The tabs on my old Landcruiser are like 2 years expired and there was a cop right behind me over by Medina Beach Park. He pulled up beside me at the light, motioned me to roll my window down, and then told me he loved my car. lol

    I like how Democrats punish the middle-class with always-increasing fees and taxes for taking the most convenient method of travel on their commutes.

    Trains and busses don’t work well when you have to also pick up kids from school or run errands after work. You can’t loathe these authoritarians, and their voting base, enough.

    One of my sons buddies is a cop here in town. I pointed out how many expired tabs I see and asked him if they ever pull anyone over for that. He said they don’t.

    Walk by a house down the street from me with a newer Navigator, Mercedes sedan and Range Rover in the driveway with tabs from 2023. Gotta be like 6 grand in unpaid fees there. Still no idea why I pay mine.

    I had expired tabs for three weeks because they decided to be assholes over an $8 late fee after I spent $900 for their precious emissions. No cop pulled me over.
