I felt the same as you. I'm not so sure it was wrong. He may be loved by the team and maybe he finally learned how to push the right buttons, but in a lot of ways they got to this ooint in spite of him.

Strong disagree. This isn’t X/O shit, this is about leadership. It isn’t Wilson’s fault that guys got hurt, or underperformed, or that Julio apparently needs to start spring training in November. Stanton / Dip / Hollander deal the cards, and Dan plays the hand. I get it…”We win, manager good. We lose, manager bad”, but metrics dictate what goes on now days, in game, for better or worse.
I thought Servais did a good job of this, but they didn’t quite have the horses, so he got the axe. Dan has the horses, and they are now healthy. It has nothing to do with “The players love him”. Of course it's on the players and of course his main role is as a leader. This ain't little league. He has to play the hand he's dealt and so on... Yep thats all given.
He still has responsibilities though. Lineup construction and in game moves being among them. His decision making has been questionable and frequently questioned and not just by me. Those things are usually debatable though.
Servals did a better job of rotating and using his bench. Then again, the bench was never that well constructed this year.
Disnt like the hire, but I wouldn't fire him.

Didn’t mean to go off there, I agree with much of what you said. His bench got a lot better when they got Naylor and Geno. He was hamstrung by DMo, Haniger, Solano, Mastrobuoni. They were depending on backups (Canzone, Garver, Raley, Rowdy) and a rookie (Williamson) for half the year. Those guys are not everyday big leaguers on a championship club.

The condition of the bench was my main beef with Dipoto this year. Funny though how adding two good starters improves it.
Even now he's stuck with some guys that he can't seem to figure out how and when to use though. Raley should be getting some starts. Julio, Robles and especially Arozarena could use some bench or DH days. Servals was always good at rotating guys and using the DH.
All mute points now, really. I think they just got rhe #2 seed with a Detroit win. A welcome break incoming.
