"I wonder whether why Northern cities would be the most affected by declining Canadian car travel', mused Bob. "And the short drive for those East of the Mississippi and the Pacific Northwest makes the whole thing real mystery."

Canadians made up about 4% of Seattle tourism in 2024 yet link says tourism in Seattle is down 27%. Something else (might) be going on, no?

Travel Portland met with Portland City Council on Wednesday morning to present findings on the state of tourism in town.
The study showed that despite efforts to improve public perception of the city, locals are still hesitant to recommend it to friends and family.
In 2017, 88% of locals surveyed said they would recommend the city to friends and family. This year, that number is at 61%.
“Whether it’s the crime that we hear about, the homelessness issue, and the feeling that people may have, the perception that it’s not safe to be in downtown Portland…those are some of the things people are hearing.,” Astley said.

Americans are traveling less too, Madam. You do know that 80% of the population in this country is East of the Mississippi, right? Shorter/fewer trips don't equate to increased domestic travel from the East half of the US to the West Coast.

I thought Canada really showed Trump by electing Art Carney
Out of the loop on international affairs and no trade deal
Sad. Stay home losers who cares

Washington plates everywhere in CDA. You'd think it was COVID but it's just summer.

Still doesn’t explain why Seattle and Portland are way further down than others places, even in the west. Canada is a rounding error for Seattle as I pointed out.
Cost is an issue. Took my daughter to the aquarium on Sunday. Every parking lot in the area was ~$100 for three hours with no baseball game. Lots were all half empty too. I won’t be back.

Blame shifted from Trump insulting Canada to east coast stay-at-home vacations
