I think it is possible the Pac-12 or 10 wasn't financially viable, especially when other conferences started shifting, but I think ideally back in 2012 or when it was the conference blends with the Big 12 and possibly let the Arizona schools go to a Big 12 division, leaving the 8 actual west coast schools to play each other and then 2-3 from the Big 12 each year and then have a championship game. That's still a bit shifty though and I wouldn't be surprised if Texas would have been drawn the SEC at some point anyway and blown everything up.
One thing I fully don't agree with is everyone's distain for involving BYU in anything. If the conference had them instead of a pathetic Cal or Beav it would have absolutely added relevance and value
I don't like BYU but always felt they would have been a value add to a west coast conference. No way the academis at places like UW ever would have had allowed that. The best options for expansion out west to me were San Diego State (though USC would block, I assume) and UNLV. My problem with BYU and Utah were they weren't west coast schools in any way.
Anything west of the Rockies is "West" to me considering the limited options. Besides for value I have to say it would be a lot more fun seeing UW go to Provo every other year with 60k fans hopped up on root beer then the depressing scene of 12k fans at Cal or even Furd on a Friday night
