I'll never forget him lining up for his first field goal. A Huskie drive was stalling out around the 25. We? had no kicker (I forget why). Lambo said Jarzynka was going to kick but nobody knew what to expect. What I read in the news was Jarzynka saying things like "I don't need a kicking coach" which sounded like him. So the stadium was dead quiet as the field goal team lined up. Literally you could hear a pin drop. Then he paced back in the usual style of a kicker. The suspense was palpable. Then the ball was hiked, a beautiful kick, good.

My memory of the kick was that it had a high arc that barely cleared the crossbar. And the crowd let out a cheer of relief
OK!
I was seated in the endzone bleachers, about 10 rows back, for the punt return against Cal.
FTR, we did not lose to Cal that day.
Didi you get yourself an Ivar's Chowder Tanker?
I was near the tunnel. If you were near the tunnel, like I was, you’d understand how crazy it was.
I’ll always remember that KIRO radio spots
….” Joe Jarzynka….He’s no rinka-dinka….”
Joe was a fearless sob and he squeezed every ouch of his talent with relentless effort!
