I don't even consider Oklahoma a blue blood type of scalp anymore.

This all makes sense but OU has a financially flush and active athletic department. They invest heavily in all sports and are post season worthy in nearly all of them. They've got 45 national championships across 7 sports. Football, baseball, golf, softball, mens and women's gymnastics and wrestling. They won't slip away quietly, if Vennables isn't the guy they will move on and spend bigly on the next coach. I wish UW had the level of commitment across the board that Oklahoma does, winning is fun.

I feel like OU also didn’t waste any tim with firing shitty coaches either.

Here are the OU coaches following Switzer:

Gary Gibbs AKA Sooner Lambo asked to resign after 6 years

Howard Creepy Schellenberger resigned after 1 year

John Blake, assume he was fired after 3 years and a 12-22 record

These are all good points. I could still easily see Oklahoma regressing into Nebraska territory. They definitely helped themselves by having a great coach and staying in the shitty Big 12 when a lot of shifting was happening in the sport. Venables could easily be the first a string of bad hires that really damages that progrum though.

I’m pretty sure Alabama didn’t call Lanning but I’m sure Oklahoma would. SEC, history, money, stadium and a fan base hungry and forgiving after the sketchy Vennables run. You don’t know the damage Brent did!

I don't know if this was serious or not but I don't think Lanning would leave Oregon for Oklahoma unless he's burnt out on Uncle Phil as a boss or Oregon/Phil think he's good but doesn't think he can win a natty and would kind of encourage him to go because it's now or never.
