I agree that there are some atheists who are looking to advertise the fact at the drop of a hat. Richard Dawkins is virtually unreadable for me because of his need to tell me he's an atheist on every third page of his books. Like all zealots, such folks are tiresome at best.
But most atheists would simply say "Believe what you want; just don't ask me to subsidize your church." It's a very First Amendment position.
