PGA WEEKLY REVIEW AND PREVIEW

Non majors have to share a thread. In the news - kiss the ring bitch
The 77 Open Championship is among the greatest of all time. Basically a 36 hole match between Watson and Nicklaus
Comments
-
Easily a top 3-4 rota course. Better than Troon, Portrush, Liverpool, George and Birkdale. Muirfield is too but got kicked out for not allowing the gals to be members.
-
When LIV was announced I thought the major flaw would be the inability to grow stars. They took players developed by the PGA Tour into household names. I think we are seeing that come into play as time goes by. The Tour is rebounding in ratings and more kids are winning and contending.
It's time for LIV to fold their little 54 hole clown show and rejoin the adult table. Bryson does get credit for the Masters rating along with Rory, same as the US Open last year. Imagine seeing that 15 to 20 times a year along with the rest of the LIV stars
It could be a golden age
-
There are so many good players, and between YouTube, Full Swing, and social media, we have more access to see their personalities and invest in them emotionally than ever before. They need to get this shit hammered out and get everyone playing together again, because you’re absolutely right. This is a potential golden age of golf, and it’s being squandered because half the top players are playing on the CW. Holy fuckall! Get your shit together or put Sven in charge. Such fag, Jay.

Rough year for Riviera
-
Always nice to see something new in the way of a course. Cricket I say
Golf really heats up now with the compressed season. Scottie is back but not playing this week. Rory is. Next week the PGA brings everyone including the LIV guys for a greatly anticipated Major
Scottie gagged the all time scoring record while lapping a weak field at Byron
-
This looks like a re-creation of me sculling a 3 iron at Bellevue Muni…
-
The PGA has a tour stop at fucked out Quail Hollow next week. Boring.
US Open at Oakmont. Yes please. Past winners there: Tommy Armour, parks Jr (who?) Hogan, Nicklaus, Miller, Nelson, Els, El Pato and DJ. Ball strikers only need apply there.
-
El Pato beat El Tigre in a classic
-
Looks nice in NC. Course should be firm and fast.
-
Soft burdie fest the way the PGA likes it.
-
Playing a lot of the classic men's sites. As I recall the Women's open at Pebble Beach was better than men playing there
Oakmont will be interesting. For the men the 17th hole is a 290 yard par 3 this year
Bobby Jones won at Interlachen his Grand Slam year
Lot of open dates still to maybe try newer courses
-
Top notch list. Chicago Golf Club is a sweet get, one of those crazy elite ones that the guys would shoot -25 on.
-
Love El Pato.
-
The media is trying to make a big story out of Rory skipping Memorial without calling Jack personally to let him know. How gay has the golf media become?
-
Media going to media. Here's one side
Jack isn't that upset but slow news day
-
Jack taking some shots at his presser while pretending to not be offended and it not being a big deal. He’s played it like 7 straight years, fuck off Jack.
This generation is on Tiger’s side as they should be.
-
Tiger never missed the Memorial
-
It was also the biggest purse and tourney after the masters and before the US Open. PGA in May and a million “signature” events have consequences.
-
No doubt. I've said the new schedule sucks since it came out. The signature events are spaced poorly among other issues like the majors being jammed together
Jack and Tiger set their schedule for the majors and Jack had the pull to get a good schedule spot for the Memorial
-
Perhaps a way for Rory to redeem himself?
-
I didn’t realize Rory was skipping Memorial to play in the fucking Canuck open. That’s fucking retarded for the most vocal guy on the PGA tour to skip a signature event, let alone Jack’s tournament, to play somewhere else. Rory deserves heat for this. I figured he was just taking a week off.
-
In 1971 Lee Trevino won the US Open and the Canadian back to back then added the Open Championship
Tiger did it in 2000 but the Canadian was in September
-
Canadian is next week. Rory wants to play the week before a major. Not everyone does. He doesn’t want to play the two weeks in a row ahead of a major. Last year Memorial was the week before the US Open. Too much packed into May and none of it is that good to get heated about skipping. Plus he’s gonna play a bunch of Europe stuff in September. I’m on Rory’s side on this one.
-
I'm sure the good folks at Bethpage may chime in at the Ryder Cup
-
The heart of the matter as Don Henley would say - the retarded tour championship. I get it that FREDEX is a huge sponsor and pays a lot of money for the year long advertising about the Cup. I've yet to meet anyone that actually cares about it including players. Yes, a 20 million dollar check is always welcome but every pro would trade it for a major.
The tour destroyed the schedule by moving the "playoffs" (PLAYOFFS?) to all of August. Nothing like Memphis in August. The NFL wasn't the problem. The playoffs are
In 2018 when Tiger won for the first time in 5 years as Justin Rose won the Cup everyone was fine. As usual the media was there with their REAL champion bullshit. Hey it killed college football why not try it again?
I actually like Sunday golf in September because the NFL is still glorified exhibition ball
Now in a couple weeks the Major season is all but over and its still June. The one thing the PGA Championship had going for it was being last - Glory's Last Chance was actually good marketing
Jack saying he wasn't upset but should have had a phone call because he wasn't upset does in fact mean he is upset but the world no longer revolves around him. Rory is chasing Gary Player and Seve and Faldo to be the best International player.
May was the Nelson, Colonial, and Memorial. The Texas stops are fortunate to have Speith and Scottie as hometown guys. Now may is the PGA some manufactured sig events and a time to take a break
The golf season had a rhythm not a drag race
I'll go yell at some clouds
-
Tiger's place. 5 time winner. Scottie won at 280 last year. Tiger got win 73 at the Memorial to tie Jack in 2013. I think he did the same passing Arnie at Bay Hill one year
As Bob alluded to - Tiger grew up watching Jack and Arnie. Kids today grew up watching Tiger
The first winner and I remember the pants to this day
