Curious as to what up and coming bats people are eyeing. I need more depth at 1B and 3B (Freeman on the IL and Paredes struggling but could come out of it soon).

Ben Rice and Spencer Torkelson are a couple of good ones to look at if they're available in your league.

Maikael Garcia at KC is available at 3b and is 50% owned… 37 stolen basis, not a good BA last year but is young and is batting above 300 this year.. Kerry Carpenter is a good power hitter OF at Detroit and still available in 1/3 of leagues…Rookie Christian Campbell is a highly regarded 2B that may be still available. Rookie Jackson Jobe SP for Detroit may be a solid Starter and is 54% owned, David Peterson is a solid Starter for the Mets and is 33% owned, the kid Chandler Simpson was batting 360, under 10% strikeouts and stole 100 bases last year, will be called up by Tampa in the near future, Ben Rice as mentioned at 1B is owned @33% and is a solid bat 1B, Garrett Mitchell at Mil has a chance to be a breakout OF coming off of injuries last year and is 15% owned.

@HFNY Tyler Soderstrom is a good power hitting first baseman in his first full year as a starter in the majors and is batting in the middle of the lineup in the AAA park at Sacramento for the A's ~ has 35-40 home run power… I think that's the guy you are looking for, is 66% owned and going fast if he is not already gone in your league…

Thanks and yes, he was long gone. Only a 10 team league but some very good managers. Fortunately, Freddie comes back relatively soon because Michael Busch sits vs. LHP and Christian Encarnacion-Strand is nearly all potential for the moment.

I did pick up Andres Gimenez off of waivers because Marcus Semien is crapping the bed for me. So is Bryan Reynolds and Willy Adames.

Garrett Mitchell is intriguing though Fan Graphs doesn't think too highly of him for ROS. I had Josh Lowe but he's on the IL.

    @HFNY

These are reaches but OF Jordan Walker is another guy you could look at that has better than average major league talent ~ 25+ home run power and could bat around 270 with some RBI potential if he moves up the batting order ~ he has been left for dead as a prospect coming back from injury and is likely a full time starter

Thanks and I actually picked up Walker a few days ago.

Jo Adell has always intrigued me but his BA is a drain. I'm keeping my eye on his K rate, it could be trending down.

My team is 2-1 on the year and in second place, but my team batting avg is .203. Absolutely incredible.

My putrid BA is about as bad. I'm considering picking up Jorge Polanco and dropping Marcus Semien though my general rule of thumb is to give veterans the whole month of April before dropping them.

And just after I dropped Michael Busch, he hits 3 HRs in 3 days with 6 RBIs and 6 runs (face palm).

Simien took forever to do anything last year when I had him. Then he was hot for a while, but pretty meh the rest of the season.

Dropped him for Tyler Fitzgerald, who can also cover SS. Would love for Polanco to get 3B eligibility in my league.

We have a pretty small talent pool. Just 8 AL teams. They're probably the best 8 but it's still small enough that nobody who has Simien would be dropping him. There aren't any upgrades available.

We do? Wow I thought it was 8. Guess I never bothered to count.

I assume you were kidding but for the record I wasn't complaining. Just thought I'd explain to HFNY that I had a limited pool that I'm familiar enough to recommend. I don't have time to track stats of guys who can't win games for me.

so Chandler Simpson is now up, pick this guy up if he is still available for steals, runs and batting average opportunity…

My Wartime Consiglieres are 3-1 and in first place despite a team batting average of .213

Interesting player though I need HRs and RBIs the most. Might have to pick up Manzardo, partially for the name.

Actually this is not true. There is a team that is 3-0-1 ahead of me. So I'm in second place.

I picked up Noelvi Marte and Jordan Beck (dropped Willy Adames since his BA is low and he's not hitting HRs or stealing bases. He got paid this off-season so that might be a factor).

Do people like Jonathan Aranda (sits almost all of the time vs. lefties), Ryan O'Hearn, Yandy Diaz, or Nick Kurtz? I need HRs and BA the most. I have Wilmer Flores, who has a been a great RBI boost, but he is cooling down.

I have Aranda and he has been awesome. High BA and on base, five homers.

I'd rather have strong side platoon guys than everyday players that suck.

Diaz is a good one. Floor is probably .280ish with a lot of walks.

I can't believe some of the names you have listed that are still available. I thought we had a deep tale t pool, but guys like you've mentioned have all been scooped up since week one. When someone goes on the DL the replacement candidates are mostly 4a types.

Thanks and I agree. Plus Aranda could get more looks and improve against LHP.

Regarding the players still available, we have a 10 team league and someone had Aranda but then dropped him when he cooled off. We also have shallow benches and 2 IL spots.

I just watched Aranda take a walk against a lefty.

We had some good free agents available for a few weeks. It's slim pickings now with all of the injuries. We have 3 reserve and 4 IL spots. 23 active players.

I have Ryan Pressly and he got blown up last night about as badly as I've ever seen (0.0 IP, 8 ERs).

Yeah that's a bad one. I grabbed Yimi Garcia a couple of weeks ago. I think he's given me one clean inning in a non-save situation and he's had two blown saves where he gave up 3-5 runs in under an inning.

so here is another idea… this guy has flown under the radar, not sure how i missed this but here it is:

Tomoyuki Sugano is a 35-year-old right-handed starting pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. In December 2024, he signed a one-year, $13 million contract with the Orioles. Sugano is a 12-year veteran of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), where he played for the Yomiuri Giants. He has two Sawamura Awards, the NPB equivalent of the Cy Young Award, and four league ERA titles. In 12 NPB seasons, he had a 2.45 ERA with a super low WHIP.

He decided to come to the US to get a payday [even great players dont make much in Japan] and probably to see how he would do against big time players ~ pretty fucking good apparently ~ so far, no one can seem to hit him.

For the Orioles, he has been just like he was in japan ~ wins games, doesnt have a high strike out rate [1/3 lower than innings pitched] but is going 6 and 7 innings with a low ERA and low WHIP and amazingly is owned by around 30% in yahoo leagues.

So yah, this might sound like a mythical Stump Von Nostrum type story, but pick this dood up if he is still available ~ you might owe me one for this one.

Last I saw nobody in our league has picked up Sugano. I've had my eyes on him a bit as an injury backfill if things good really bad, but he has been good enough to warrant a roster spot.

I rostered 7 starters, with two on the bench, who all have #2 or #1 type ceilings. It hasnt gone that well though. I seem to get three good starts per week and 3-4 bad ones. Every time I rotate who is active, the guys I bench pitch well and at least two of the actives have a blowup.

I just traded one of them away to free up a bench spot for a bat.

He's already gone in my league. His BABIP is .229 and his FIP is 4.59 so there could be some regression.

I need positive regression (or progression?) from fellow Oriole Adley Rutschman and also from OF Bryan Reynolds. Both are tanking my team BA without providing much other counting stats.

I have Josh Lowe coming off the IL and may have to drop Reynolds (or Jordan Beck but Beck has some speed and hits in Coors Field).

Welp my team was 6-1 and in first place. But it looks like I will lose this week barring a miracle. Still in first place, but the taste of defeat is a bitter pill my friends.
