I am of the opinion that going for 2 is always wrong in game ending situations.

complete hindsight uninformed guess but my take is he thought he could win the natty at UW and we’d be happy forever then he’d take off for Bama but we’d be ok because we had a chip and the reality of the situation was hitting him.

Urban Meyer same way, and in interview said as much that he hated losing multiple times more than winning, and wins were more of a relief than celebration for him.

I think most any coach at that level is so arrogant that they think they can do about anything and think it won’t impact their coaching abilities.
