First, last week I was told we? don’t deal in hypotheticals here.
No shit, had DeBoer stayed last year we are better considering he took a few starters with him along with a mass exodus from a handful of players that very well could have bolted for cash being on the award winning OL from 2023 to Ole Miss/sec had DeBoer stayed. Like their previous coach, a number of players cashed in on their last year of eligibility in 2024 and 2023’s success.
And don’t pretend that the 4-8 team, most of whom were recruited and early developed by Petersen didn’t play a part in the 26-3 run the two years after the Lake debocal.
I haven’t seen anyone here claim Fisch is a better HC than our previous guy, unless I’m mistaken. DeBoer had a ton of continuity in his staff and it’s very fortunate he was Penix’s former OC when he took the UW job and struck lightening in a bottle. Westover, Culp, the entire OL except Center, including Jalen M and Rome a generational wr at UW. I’m skipping Special Teams and the D.
I wasn’t thrilled with a few decisions Fisch had as a play caller in year one but he seems to be a better recruiter and I still have a glass half full attitude since he turned around Arizona from 1 win in year one to 2 losses in year 4. He’s got work to do obviously, that’s why he’s getting the big bucks I suppose. UW has proved to do much worse in their history of hires since Don. BeBoer and Petersen were fantastic hires and it took 20+ years to get it right after Coach James resigned.
Kalepo and Buelow were gone man. It's all speculative as to why but they weren't coming back. The Parker twins was their main find at DL and they were supposed to be the guys anchoring the defense. You'd have to argue that they could've gotten one of the medically retired guys to stick it out one more year which didn't seem likely.
Again, the December transfer portal is done. He'd have to somehow hustle and flip guys just because he made a title run, which I don't see that happening in practice. Isn't Notre Dame actually losing starters to fucking Indiana?
I'm not saying DeBoer isn't an elite coach but like it or not you have to stack talent and he hadn't been doing that and was in for a season that was assuredly going to be worse than 2022. Cuevas and Bernard weren't getting us to 10 wins, I'm sorry but I don't see it in any situation and yes that is partly on DeBoer and the fact that his only connections as a head coach were Fresno area high schools and players.
I'm LIPO on Jedd but the 2 things we really need right now (stacking talent and a star quarterback) appear to be happening so I don't care about an expansion season where we flipped a coin in a shitty bowl to go 6-7 instead of 7-6. Like half of Petersen's years were this shitty and he didn't have any decent wins in those years besides #25 USC on the road.
Be not like the pebble, but the leaf. CFB is conspiring against us to ruin the sport. All we can do is go along with it.
On the flipside @YellowSnow I saw Pantera the other night, and I have to say they did a great job (it is not clear to me if you hate them or not…). I was transported back to college. I guess if your guitar player gets shot 20 years ago the setlist can't have any new album tracks to promote. It was good.
@ukdawg has it figured out regarding Uni sports. There's basically only one- i.e., row boat. I've been to the Oxford vs Cambridge boat race and it was spectacular.
If you wanna be a professional soccer ball player, you sign a contract out of High School (or whatever the limeys call it) and go pro. You don't have the opportunity to play professionally for Cambridge.
This is the way. Fuck the kids and blow up college sports.
Long opinion short I don't think DeBoer was ever staying long unless it was a situation where he wasn't winning enough to even take a slightly above lateral SEC job. I think they're slightly better in 2024 if he stays, but maybe not at all. Also remember he wasn't bringing in a playmaker at RB and I agree that I think glue guys like Kalepo, Hatchett, possibly Buelow, Muhammad, and Powell were still leaving. The portal guys he brought in were exceptionally underwhelming and most of his recruits have been phantoms (Bernard and Brailsford annoyingly were Jimmy guys).
Long term I would have kept DeBoer but given I don't think that was a reality I think it was better he left after 2023 than 2024.
Dude, is our high school recruiting not sick? Is the defense not totally stacked for next season? How sick do we need to be to be SICK for 2024? Do we still need to go blow a pro sports own to be totally sick?
My gf and I have a deal. For every minute she makes me have to hear the dud that is some show called Abbott Elementary I make her listen to Pantera. My gf is unaware of this agreement.

No shit. I don't blame the kids for trying to polish a turd like Judd. It's pretty much what they have known
I don’t agree with everything you have to say about Ol’ Judd but at least I’m having a good laff
Race wanted to fire Don James after 1975 too.
50 years later PGOS runs Race, or not, either way it will be interesting
stack talent.
Schtick > actually following the program.

That's what I'm here for
JFC you doog idiots.
Impossible to say, because of the mass exodus that occurred after he left two days after our natty game

I saw Pantera open up for OG Black Sabbath at Key Arena in 1997. Wasn't a fan.

Good to see it's time for internet access hours at the Woodburn Juvenile Hall.
As opposed to offseason hot talk about what? Jerking off to Lannings Bond villain facial hair?
Coming up on the next pod!
