I knew both Don and Carol and enjoyed socializing with them a lot. Carol was always fun to talk with and she endeavored to see the best in everyone and every situation.
When my sister Jennifer passed away in 2015 from pancreatic cancer (which also claimed Coach James in 2013), Carol came to the funeral — which shocked my dad to the point of tears.
Here's to a gracious woman who helped lift up and lend support to the golden era of Husky Football.
I remember listening to UW get worked by Bama in 1975, 59-0 or whatever. During the radio broadcast Carol came on to do an ad for a supermarket or something
For some reason it pissed me off.
I don't want to hear from you or your damn wife I yelled at the radio
Here's a quick story Carol once told me. Back in the late 1970s Don James was on the road recruiting. Suddenly Carol received a phone call from him. He said that a recruit was teetering and about to flip to Notre Dame (If memory serves me right it was Phil Carter from Tacoma. I'm 95% certain.). The family was going to have a group prayer and then make the decision that night. Coach James instructed her to call a booster (the late Herb Mead) and drive down there to try to intervene. So Herb picked up Carol and they raced to Tacoma. The Notre Dame reps were there in the living room with the family. They all got into a big prayer circle and asked the lord for guidance.
(Herb told me he had his arms around two people and he squeezed what he thought was the hand or arm of Carol to signal to her, but he had squeezed the hand/arm of a black lady who was now looking at him with confusion).
By night's end, Phil Carter decided to go to Notre Dame. Carol and Herb were dejected and got back into Herb's car. On the way back home to the Eastside, Herb's car broke down. They had to get a tow truck. Carol said, "I'm sitting there thinking 'oh this is just lovely. We lose the recruit and now there will be rumors that Don James' wife is having an affair with a UW booster!'"
1991 was the shit! Old school dawgs love DEFENSE and nothing fired up old Husky Stadium more than a forced fumble, a sack or a false start on the visiting team. 1991 all day, everyday!
RIP Carol James. Love hearing your stories about her @AtomicPiss

Back when we paid coaches a fair wage so their wives had to do work on the side.
I blame the greedy coaches and salary bidding wars for our having to pay the kids.
You like to remember the specific details of things which pissed you off 50 years ago.
It's what you like to do.
Race would have fired Carol in 75.
Carol told me she appeared on some episodes of a TV show called Romper Room. I just went to YouTube to search for a minute but didn't spot her.

For the week of mourning, all responses should include "@racebannon would have fired Carol James".
Damn you and your 1 hour and 11 minute headstart.
Wood.
Carol and Don.
Hopefully Sark will come back to start a Go Huskies chant at her funeral.
Have always heard great things about her. Even if UW had beaten Michigan in the NC, the '91 Huskies would still have been tops in my mind.
The natty run offense was legendary but

Totally under chinned comment, absolutely hilarious!
