Obviously jsut switching off of the seed oils when you buy fast food wouldn’t do much of anything. But they are in just about everything. Even the Trader Joe’s cashews are cooked in sunflower oil. Seed oils make you lazy and lazy makes you fat. I’ll die on this hill.
We had an opportunity 4 years ago to encourage get people healthy and instead public health decided to shut down gyms, youth sports and farmers markets and instead sent everyone to TikTok and Safeway.
Rant over. Happy it’s all finally getting some real eyeballs and more than the crazy fringes, ie the people that are healthy and in shape, are waking up..

Cashews are good for you. When prepared, bad to less good things may be involved. But they aren't the primary ingredient. What percent of the calories in a serving of those cashews would be attributed to seed oils.
Your first statement is what I think Yella's point effectively is. The existence and repeated consumption of french fries is a significantly bigger issue than the specifics of the fat used to cook said french fries.

These seed oils only exists because of a combination of cost, flavor (maybe) and stabilization for longer shelf life. The potatoes aren’t why fries are terrible for you. The meat and cheese aren’t why a Big Mac makes you feel like shit after you eat it.

Potatoes to Fries is the step though, adding in a pile of fat to something which isn't totally healthy to start with.
On the Big Mac, no, it is the 3 slices of bun involved.

All bread isn’t created equal either. It’s so hard to avoid this bad stuff is my main point because of widespread use in basically everything, it’s nice to see some improvement and exposure on the margins.
I worry about the kids more than anything. It’s a bit of chicken and egg, did screens cause kids to get fat and anxious or has shitty food that both kids and parents eat played a significant role in making them less active and their parents too tired and lazy to give a fuck and thus drawn everyone to screens and into a doom loop.

My beef with the Twatt, is that there is no "healthy" version of eating McDonalds, BK, Steak n' Shake, In n' Out, etc. Does anyone think if they eat a lot of french fries regularly they are all of sudden going to get in better health because of fucking beef tallow? And it's not like beef tallow doesn't carry risk as well- it's high in saturated fat. Eating tons of fried food isn't great for the body, period.
For the record we cook almost exclusively with olive oil, avocado oil and ghee. But I'm not gonna stop eating some cheezits and gold fish in moderation. And yes, you can outrun seed oils if you exercise regularly and aren't eating shitty processed foods. I've got about 1000 anecdotal examples to draw from in my family and peer groups. A little salad dressing with some soybean oil ain't gonna kill anyone.

The problem with the seed oils in my view is as you describe. They greatly add in the production of affordable, shitty processed food with high energy density (i.e., easy to overconsume calories) and long shelf life.

I don't agree with you definition that high-caloric content equals energy density. It's easy for you to measure caloric content, but that doesn't mean it provides the body with any real extra energy. See: food coma.

My grievance with the seed oil freak out, is saying I'm gonna die because I put a little dressing (with some soy bean oil or the like) on a salad with high nutritional value.

I shit you not, I use canola oil instead of WD40 because it lasts longer. I put some on my chicken run door latch 6 months ago, and it’s still lubricated. I sprayed some canola oil “cooking spray” on a door hinge months ago, and it still makes no noise. That shit is not food.

I’ll say for me generally, having closely watched my diet for over 20 years with consistent blood work, I’ve observed the following based on what I eat:
Olive oil is the oil which is used for basically everything in the house. We have vegetable oil (soybean) and grape seed oil but pretty sure they get used maybe once a year and have been sitting around for over 5 years.
Half and half in coffee, Greek yogurt, cheese, real butter, never margarine, not afraid to liberally eat any of those.
Tons of nuts especially for lunch. Avocados/Guac too.
Eggs including yolk eaten normally and liberally.
Normal but not excessive meat including the fat. Rotate between tastier and healthier but no worrying on it. Fried chicken and chicken wings are not scary. (Don’t do any frying of my own at home).
I don’t worry how stuff is cooked at a restaurant. Same guidelines apply, though non Olive oil gets used but I have no idea what ofc.Have never had an LDL cholesterol reading be high. Virtually always sub 100.
One thing we rarely eat is bacon, it’s like a once every 2 months thing to cook some up, but once had a phase where we ate it a lot and my LDL was definitely higher in my next blood draw. After cutting that back out LDL immediately went back down.
So like I still feel it is an “eat food” philosophy and everything in proper moderation is way more impactful than elimination of hyper specific bad things if there is still too much “less bad” in someone’s diet. -
Pre oil boom of the late 1800s animal fats provided all the lighting and all the lubricants. And that stuff was all edible too. Candles for pours were made from tallow. Only the rich could afford bees wax candles.

As I said yesterday, I don’t cook with the “motor oil” but I’m not overly stressed about being in some of my occasional snacks.
